This is what happens when I watch Takeshi Koike's Redline. And then set about drawing yet another fan art for an obscure anime like Super Dimensional Cavalry: Southern Cross.

I elaborate on this a bit further at [link]

I might have to check out the original un-butchered Southern Cross story. The picture looks awesome. I especially like the leather jump suits.

it's okay, the Robotech version is really my first exposure and still has a certain charm to it I like. Wish the writing was tighter though. Lotta weird things going on...

I don't know, there were some things I liked out of it like the Ajacs, Logan, and the Spartas Hovertank.

I also liked Dana and Nova... but Bowie Emerson and Musica got on my damn nerves.

Yeah, the writing was pretty weird. Macross and Southern Calvary should have never had their stories linked together in Robotech as it never made sense that the the Veritech from Macross had a Battloid mode and the Logan did not even though it was its predecessor which is supposed to be more evolved. However, it fell back a rung on the evolutionary ladder of the Veritech.

Plus it was funny that Max and Miriya's baby had blue hair and she turns blonde in Southern Cross. Carl Macek should have let the stories be separate from one another instead of the bastardized Frankenbaby called Robotech.

Yes. But don't get me wrong. As a younger lad, I bought ALL of that Robotech lore stuff. Down to reading debates on why the original Valkyries were scrapped in favor of Southern Cross tech. Don't get me started on those timeline debates.

I like the Southern Cross cast, save for... Bowie. I was hoping they would expand on a lot of the side characters like Sean Philips and Marie Crystal, in the original animation. But they didn't. And I really liked the mecha! Right down to the open cockpit Hovertank.

The show doesn't seem to have aged well, honestly. And the "remastered" version is just AWFUL. Shame.

I liked the open cockpit of the Hovertank too. I don't know about your statement about the show not aging well... it's just how I remembered which brings back feelings of nostalgia.

I can't say anything about the remastered version as I never saw it. I was REALLY pissed about EVERYTHING being remastered a year r 2 AFTER I had bought ALL of the DVDs when they came out towards the beginning of 2000!

The narrator kind of irks me, and a lot of the visuals that don't sync up with the overarching tale of Robotech. I can still watch it and remember it for what it was but... And I do like the open cockpit! Doesn't make a lot of sense, but I thought it was cool.

I wouldn't bother with any of the "remastered" DVDs. they completely changed the intros and sound effects. The broadcast version is SUPERIOR!
